Medical Matters

Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell or you have reasonable doubts. We are always pleased to welcome children back to school later in the day if their symptoms disappear. If your child has been sick they should not return to school for 48 hours from the last bout of sickness.

On each day of illness please call the school office 01603 867504 before 9:30am. Whilst you know where they are, for safeguarding reasons, the school has a duty of care to account for the whereabouts of each child daily.

The administration of medicines to children is the responsibility of parents/carers. Medicines may be administered at school, however only at the discretion of the Headteacher. All medicine should be in its original container bearing the child’s name, dosage and instructions. Parents/carers are also required to complete a medicine request form (available from the school office). Parents/carers should note that the school will not accept responsibility for the administration of medicine to pupils if:

  • The timing of the administration is crucial and/or
  • Technical or medical knowledge is required.

Children who use inhalers are expected to be responsible for carrying and using their own inhalers. The school should be provided with a spare, named inhaler to be kept at the school at all times. Please contact the school office if a discussion is needed or further details required.

Head Lice

The problem of lice and nits (the eggs) does occur from time to time in all schools. Please be vigilant and patient, swiftly applying the appropriate treatment and treating the whole family. If your child has live lice in their hair you will be asked to take your child out of school so that you can carry out the ‘bug busting’ routine, your child may then return to school.

Full instructions and advice are always available in the school office or speak to your local chemist.

Emergency Contact

It is essential that the school office has accurate up to date contact details for at least two emergency contacts for each pupil. Parents/carers need to be contactable in the event of an emergency or illness, however we recognize that some jobs can make this difficult. For this reason we request for other emergency contacts in case we are unable to contact a parent/carer.
